BC Invite

So the BC invite is done and dusted, kudos to the Canberrans for organising such a high standard lead-in tournament featuring teams from all the regions of Australia. Having all those teams in one place that wasn't Nationals was really a massive step in the right direction for elite ultimate in Australia. I mean the party sucked but that's not really a big deal.

However:

Chilly had no Gack, Firestorm was more of a B team featuring John and Chris, Vicky Taylor's wedding took away half of the players from the Southern region and Sublime were actually Southside, so it's hard to make predictions for the Nationals season.

Still, Fakulti had a good tourney. Fakulti Y (Fakulti Dowle/Shepherd/Yorston) won all their games but lost a quarter final knockout against Fakulti X (Fakulti Blakeley/Liddicoat/Gardner). This was X's only win, and was shockingly reminiscent of our scrimmages at training where that always seems to happen.

Results were something like:

Sublime
I-Beam
(I don't think they played a 3/4 placing game)
=Fyshwick
=Fakulti X
Fakulti Y
Chilly
HoS
Firestorm

It's looking pretty even. Chilly and Firestorm's rosters at Perth are going to be much stronger than the showings at the BC Invite. Fyshwick really only have to tighten their screws, and HoS were missing a few and didn't seem to be playing at 100%. I-Beam are looking good if their legs can hold out (the final was a blowout, work on that fitness Newcastle) and Sublime could honestly go anywhere.

Fakulti are still going to win, though. Equal first.

Who did Sublime pick up apart from Eric, Cupcake and Lochie Wise?

And who were HoS missing? Macca is injured, but otherwise they were pretty much full strength. Few of them may have been suffering a Kaimana hangover, though.

Chilly were about 1/3rd A team and 2/3rds B team. Firestorm were missing Mike and aL. Otherwise everyone else seemed full strength, or close to.

Sublime picked up Jens, Charlie and Wollongong Steve. It was pretty much a pick up team.

HoS were missing Seb and Moroney, I guess, but they also just didn't play as well as they could have. This is becoming a running gag with them, it seems.

The Firestorm players I spoke to stressed their BC Invite team was more of an opportunity to get their inexperienced/junior players competing at a high level than their actual Perth side.

Fakulti X were down to nine players on the Sunday due to injury, wedddings, church and 30th's. Also, Pete Gardner has done something to his ACL which is a bit of a big loss.

Fak Y were missing some very helpful dedicated role-fillers, but were close to full strength.

Firestorm was missing Buzz Burwell and a noticable number of their deep recievers.

HOS only had 12 players on Saturday and 11 on Sunday. When you consider we have 23 on the team you'll realise we were missing more than just Seb and Mozza.
